Cross stitch - Tips to start embroidering
hace 3 años
Cross stitch is very popular
Cross stitch embroidery is one of the most popular forms of embroidery today. The cross stitch is embroidered with small "X" stitches to form a design. Cross stitch is usually done on fabric that has small even holes for the needle and thread to pass through. This fabric is called "Aida fabric." Some cross stitches are done on silk and other fabrics are used as well. The fabric used is entirely dependent on the stapler and the desired end results for the job.
Plastic and paper embroidery
Some cross-stitch embroidery today is also done on plastic canvas and paper. These other means of cross stitching produce their own unique results. Plastic and paper are stiffer than traditional cross stitch fabric and can be shaped into interesting shapes and used for projects where fabric isn't practical.
threads for cross stitch
The threads used for cross stitch range from cotton, wool, silk and metallic. These threads are usually very colorful and come in a wide variety of colors and textures for any need.
Before you start, take a look...
If you're new to cross stitch, it's always a good idea to learn a little about the craft before starting your first project. There are tons of books and websites dedicated solely to the threads to use, the most appropriate techniques, and instructions for cross stitching. Before purchasing your first project, you should take the time to read up on cross stitch and understand the basics of how it's done. This will save you a lot of frustration on your first project. The next thing to do is pick a simple cross stitch project to learn. Find a project that isn't too complicated, doesn't have too many colors, and uses a larger knit Aida fabric. The combination of these three factors will ensure the best results for your first cross stitch project.
Start the first project
In this video of Tiny Tany, see how to make the basic cross stitch, step by step:
Once you understand the basics of cross stitch, it's time to start your first project. Start by reading all the instructions that came with your first project kit. Read and understand how many threads to use and any special markings on the pattern.
When cross-stitching, you take the traditional six-line embroidery thread and separate it into individual lines. You will then cross stitch using one to three threads at a time. In general, the larger the weft of your Aida fabric, the more strands of yarn you will work at a time. The best thing you can do for your final product is to separate each strand, and then use the recommended number of strands together. Don't rewind them together, keep them separate. This helps the cable cover the screen better and makes it look flat and even.
Start with the first cross stitch
When beginning the first stitch, do not tie off the thread. You never want to tie a knot in the thread on any sewing project, because that will cause clumps in the final project. Simply pull the thread through the fabric, leaving a small tail of thread at the back. Pin the small ponytail to the back of your project and make the following stitches so that they overlap the thread and secure it in place. This takes some practice, but it makes your projects great.
Once you've finished stitching with one color and need to start a new one, the process is simple. You should take your needle and gently pull the thread through the existing stitches on the back of your project. This will protect your theme. Once this is done, cut the thread flush with the surface of your project, but leave it a little longer, maybe an inch, so it doesn't come undone. To start a new color of thread, simply rethread the needle and start over as before.
Cross stitch is addictive
The biggest problem with cross stitch is that it's addictive. You start knitting and you never want to stop. Once you get excited, you will start to find projects that you want to complete. This is a good thing in moderation, but try to keep buying projects just one or two earlier than what you're currently working on. Cross stitch projects can be time consuming and you should make sure you don't buy projects that you will never complete.
Good luck with your new job and good projects!
