Learn to embroider a butterfly
Here you can learn how to embroider butterflies step by step with the needle embroidery technique
To embroider this fantastic butterfly we will use the following embroidery stitches:
- split back stitch
- straight stitch
- daisy stitch
- satin knit
- long and short point
To start, embroider the outline of the wings with split back stitch in black. Next, embroider the outer parts of the wings with blue satin stitch. Add black straight stitches over the blue satin stitch.
Embroider the first colored part of the upper wings in satin stitch, spilling over the blue and black part. Add, again using the satin stitch, the first black part of the upper wings invading the previously embroidered part. Also embroider the three independent black dots with satin stitch, going beyond the marks indicated in the design.
In the same way, embroider a "step" in light yellow, then black, then bright yellow, then black, and finally bright yellow until you reach the bottom of the wings. It also embroiders the black spots on the lower wings.
Embroider with a long and short stitch the remaining yellow part up to the first black stitches. Finish embroidering the rest of the upper wings with a long and short stitch, covering the black dots well.
Fill the lower wings with long and short stitch. Next, embroider the outline of the body, abdomen and head of the butterfly with a split stitch.
Fill in the direction of the length, the body, the abdomen and the head with straight stitches with two threads of the same colour.
Finally, embroider with satin stitch all over the body, abdomen and head of the butterfly. Embroider the antennae with a straight stitch and put a small daisy stitch at the tip of both ends of the butterfly.
